Fourth of July Parade Fun!

The annual Fourth of July parade was back on this year on Cape Cod, and we were there to celebrate! Gigi loved all the local, homespun parade floats, the bands, and especially the candy and free give-aways! We also spent time with all of Peter's siblings, their spouses, kids, and his parents. It was a busy, fun time.

Mustache Silliness with Mimi

Our daughter's grandma (Mimi) visits often, and the two have lots of fun together! Here they are on a walk, posing with big sticks as mustaches. So fun!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter, everyone! On Easter, we followed our pandemic tradition of making a big pancake breakfast, then helping Gigi on an Easter egg hunt, followed by a gourmet, home-cooked lunch complete with Southern Caramel Cake. We also made time to FaceTime all of our family, and even had a post-dinner Easter dance party!

Maple Sugar Festival!

March in Upstate New York is Maple Sugar Festival time! That means this is the time when the Maple trees are tapped for their sap to make maple sugar and maple syrup. We ventured out to a festival that included learning about how the process of making maple syrup has changed through the centuries, and having some maple sugar snow. It's like a snow cone, but with fresh maple sugar on it!!

Socially-distanced Zoo Trip!

We ventured out in the snow and cold to make a socially-distanced trip to the zoo! We all had a marvelous time and it was a great opportunity to step away from our routine and just have fun with silly and wonderful animals! Afterward, we got takeout from a soul food restaurant participating in Black Restaurant Week. The mac n' cheese was sooooooo good.

Celebrating Christmas, Quarantine-style!

We celebrated Christmas just us, and Jess's Mom, after quarantining to be safe. Our daughter has a very close connection to her "Mimi" so making this happen was very special. We drove around and looked at light displays and took some nice walks, but mostly stayed in and baked, ate, and enjoyed time together.

Decorating for the Holidays!

Gigi helped us decorate the tree today! She was great at threading the hooks onto the ornament and placing them on the tree! Next, we plan to put the outdoor holiday lights up!

Fun at the sunflower festival!

We went to a local farm to see millions of sunflowers, eat cider donuts and drink fresh cider! Fall is here!

Family Hike!!!

We took a hike at a county park that is full of ponds created by glaciers. The warm early-fall sun and the water were beautiful and created a sense of peace. We also saw a number of horses out for trail walks with their riders- which Gigi loved!

Peach Picking!

We went out to a local farm to pick a very special treat! Donut peaches! They are small, flat and round like donuts and oh so delicious!!!! Gigi’s a natural at picking and helped a lot! We picked a bunch and gave bowls of peaches to our neighbors too!

S’more time!

We have been doing a lot of campfires and s’mores this month. Even during the week it can be a nice break from the regular routine. Mimi likes to join us too!

Blueberry picking!

There are so many beautiful farms to visit around our home. We went blueberry picking a few times over the past two weeks. Gigi is really good at it! And it’s nice to be out in nature as a family, on an adventure!

Family hike!

We took a family hike over the weekend! Gigi was a great hiker! We saw two baby dear on the trails, a bunch of frogs, And 5 different kinds of pine trees. We also ate lunch in a wildflower field and found a good spot for sled riding when winter comes!

Bubbles!

Playing with the new bubble machine is so much fun!!!

Making sandcastles with Mimi!

Our daughter loves her ‘crabby’ sand box. Jess’s Mom visits every week and one of the things that Gigi and Mimi love to do is build sand castles. Today they added flowers from the yard to decorate the castles!

Family Photo at the Beach

We captured this nice family photo at the end of our time on vacation at the beach. It was a good three weeks of sand, water, boats, family, crabs, and fun! We are looking forward to returning to our house and getting settled back in to our routine. Gigi surely has lasting memories from this time!

Drive-in Movie Night!

We saw Ghostbusters (1984) at the Drive-in! It was Gigi’s first drive-in and a great social distancing activity! The minivan comes in handy bc we can ‘stow’ the seats and lounge with blankets!

Watermelon and beach time!

Another great day of food and family fun at the beach!

Boating!

Out on Peter’s family’s Boat! Gigi is a natural!

Happy Fourth of July!

We are physically distancing at the beach! We are having so much fun with our family in the surf and sand and counting our blessings during this strange time in America.

Pure joy!

There is nothing like the pure joy of a child on a swing!

Beach Adventures!

our daughter is adventurous at the beach! She enjoys finding minnows and crabs to pick up and ‘return’ to the water!

Beach time!

While still maintaining physical distancing, we are taking some time to relax as a family at the beach this summer. Our daughter is big enough now to dig in the sand, pickup crabs, and run through the surf!

Crabbie Sand Box Time!

The whole fam pitched in to set up a new Crab sand box!  It’s a fun backyard activity and Mommy and Daddy have already climbed in a few times to dig and build!

Happy Memorial Day!

While still observing physical distancing, we ventured to the beach to remember our military heroes and enjoy some much needed time out and about! We had lunch, played in the sand, dipped our toes in the (cold) water, and listened to music! Gigi had so much fun! And so did we!

Scootering!

Gigi took her scooter on our walk today and propelled herself most of the way!

Cuddles!

Gigi and Oli took a little cuddly break for a few minutes. They are the sweetest siblings!

Tag! You’re It!

The clouds gave way to sun in the afternoon today. Before dinner, we got out some energy and had fun with a game of tag in the backyard! We also took turns having skipping and backward running races!

It’s Water Table Time!

Wow, it was a warm, sunny, fun-filled day in our back yard! The temperature finally got high enough for us to have some water play! Gigi splashed and played for a few hours! We ate lunch and dinner outside! We played with Gigi’s playhouse! We drew with chalk, we galloped around pretending to be horses! We played golf! And we rounded the day out by joining Peter’s family for a Zoom birthday party and baking chocolate chip cookies! We will sleep well tonight!!!

Finger Painting

Gigi was hard at work at her easel this afternoon with her finger paints!

Bug hunt!

Gigi loves bugs and spring is the perfect time in NY to get out and explore the world of our crawly bug friends! Gigi found two lady bugs this week and counted 22 worms on one walk alone!

Fort building!

It’s a rainy day so we built a fort inside! We used Gigi’s tent, some chairs and blankets! Gigi loves it! We brought some music instruments and books in there and it’s like we are camping!

It’s a beautiful spring day out in our yard!

During this period of physical distancing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus we are grateful for so much, including each other, health, and the little things like being able to get outside in the warm spring sun. Gigi decided to practice her soccer skills today! We could not believe how well she kicked the ball around! More importantly she told us she was ‘having so much fun!’

Spring Gardening

We did some spring gardening this morning. Gigi has got the tools and happily got down in the rocks, while Oliver was very happy just to observe. Afterward we played our first game of "I spy" together in the yard. While Jess gave clues about flowers and new leaves on trees, Gigi was more focused on worms, dirt, etc.!
